Mother and daughter sewing business enters Tipp City

After cutting the ribbon and having their grand opening on the first of this month, the mother-and-daughter-owned sewing, quilting, and embroidery shop Stitched by Liv and Em is beginning their Tipp City business journey at their 34 S. Second Street location.

This is the first in-person establishment of their popular online business, and the ladies are enthusiastically on “pins and needles. Stitched by Liv and Em was inspired by the bond between Olivia and her mother, Emily. Emily began her sewing journey in her high school home economics class during the 80’s and has been creating since Olivia could remember. After getting her own sewing machine in 2012, Olivia carried on the tradition. The duo began with sewing private orders for friends and family and then expanded into selling their work to others. Eventually, they worked their way to create products for brands and businesses, even finding themself making a custom order for Meta, a company that famously owns four of the biggest social media platforms.

For Liv and Em, sewing is so much more than a skill. Needle to thread is a bonding experience, a chance to pass down memories, and a chance to spend time with the people you love. When parting from her mom in her young adulthood, as most children do, Olivia found that through sewing, she felt connected to her mother, no matter how many miles were between them. This love and care are noticeable in each and every one of Liv and Em’s creations. Liv says, “We’re a place anyone can come to; we’d love to talk to anybody. There’s something here for everyone, and if you can’t find it, we make it.” Not only do they make it, but you can too. Liv and Em’s love for sewing and its power transcends their products and orders. The girls are gearing up for a busy Christmas season and a new avenue in their business. In addition to creating memorable pieces, they plan to offer sewing classes where they can share and express their talent while passing it down to generations who might have otherwise lost it.

Sewing may “seam” like a trait of the few and of the past, but Liv and Em are bringing it back, and with style, to downtown Tipp. Tradition and sewing go hand in hand with Liv and Em. The women are already “threaded” into the community, with one of their favorite quilt blocks being the Ohio Star Quilt Block, sometimes referred to as The Old Tippecanoe. Olivia is excited to merge the tradition of quilting with younger generations and sewing and bring a new and exciting atmosphere to Tipp City. The young business owner says, “We are just excited to continue to merge into the community, meet people, offer classes, and also start doing workshops here and there.” It’s safe to say that Tipp City is “sew” excited to see what Stitched by Liv and Em has in store for their new and booming downtown business, and wishing them “awl” the best.
