Two Tipp wrestlers win MVL titles

Two members of the Tippecanoe wrestling squad brought home the gold on Friday. The Red Devils competed in the Miami Valley League (MVL) Wrestling Championships at Vandalia Butler High School.

Riley Hull at 113 and Trent Thompson wrestling 144 ran the gauntlet and earned championships in their respective weight class.

Hull opened his day with a bye before defeating Nolan Davis from Stebbins 18-1 in the semifinals to advance to the championship match. Hull then dominated Lucas Carroll of Butler 16-1 to earn the 113 title.

Thompson opened his quarterfinal match defeating Ralex Winals of Sidney 18-2 to advance into the semifinals. He then edged out Bryce Hatfield of Butler with an 8-7 decision to set up the championship match against Bradley Bush of Greenville. Thompson earned a 12-4 decision and the title at 144.

Finishing as runner-up was Rohan Nicholls at 126, as he fell in the championship match to Lane Obaugh of Troy via pin in 2:38. To get to the finals, Nicholls earned a quarterfinal win over Hayden Taylor of Sidney in 1:13 and Jayse Clark of Xenia via pin at 5:05 in the semis.

Also finishing as a runner-up was Collin Isaac at 165. Isaac opened his day with a pin over Kyle Humerick of West Carrollton in 1:28 and Eli Watkins of Piqua in the semis in 1:19.

In the championship match, Isaac fell short to Braylen Crump of Butler in a tough 12-8 decision.

Also for Tipp, Trace Frazier finished fourth at 106, losing the third place match to Micah Fleming of Xenia 5-2. He finished 2-2 on the day.

At 120, Parker Stuchell lost his last two matches after a win in the quarterfinals.
Eli Stacy also won his opening match against Mickey Shirley of Fairborn, only to fall short in his next two matches.

Chase McCormick went 1-2 on the day for Tipp at 138 pounds, while Koal Asbury was 0-2 wrestling at 150. Cade Frazier went 1-2 weighing in at 157.

Finally for Tipp, Brian Lomeli finished 0-2 at 285 pounds.

*Butler earned five MVL championships on the day. Layton Combs at 106, Jace Love at 175, James Hodge at 190, Cooper Pion at 215 and as mentioned, Crump at 165.

*The Aviators claimed the MVL title with a total of 227.5 points, nearly 100 points ahead of their closest competition from Greenville. Tippecanoe placed fourth in the Miami Division with 98.5 points.
