Milton-Union Basketball is headed to tournament play
The girls basketball team has secured their tournament draw for the game on February 12.
As the #6 seed, they will play the #5 seed, Valley View, with the game location at Trotwood Madison High School.
But before they could fully prepare for that, they had a few regular season games left to focus on.
On January 30, the team fell in a close game to Bethel, 35-31. Sophomore Addi Case led the team scoring 16 points and four rebounds. Jenna Brumbaugh contributed close behind with 13 points and four rebounds as well.
Only two days later, the team took another loss against Northridge, this time losing by 10 points, 56-46. Case led the team once again with 16 points and Brumbaugh with 14.
With their record dropping to 12-6, winning their next two games was important, which they did.
In a close game with Newton on February 3, the ‘dogs won 29-27 with Brumbaugh as the leading scorer. Kate Copp also added eight, and Sophie Layman with five.
On February 5, they tacked on another win, 53-25, against Lehman Catholic. Contributing to this win was Case with 26 points. This win was also head coach Katie Roose’s 150th career win!
With their record now at 14-6, they have one more week of regular season play before the postseason matchup with Valley View.
The boys team have been putting up a stronger fight in their regular season games.
On January 24, they took a loss to Miami East 42-30. Titus Copp had 10 points, and Wyatt Kimmel added seven.
Only one day later, they took a win over Arcanum 49-42. Levi Brumbaugh scored 18 big points to help accomplish this win. This was the team's third win of the season.
They added another win on January 28, 45-37, over inner-conference team Covington! Copp scored 12 points and added four rebounds and three assists. Logan Keys had 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists. And Carson Lavy had nine points.
After this game, their record stood at 4-12 but unfortunately fell shortly after.
On January 31, the ‘dogs lost to Bethel, 52-46, in double overtime. Copp led the team with 14 points, nine assists, 4 steals, and three rebounds. Brumbaugh also added 12 points and four assists.
Finally, on February 1, the team lost again to Mississinawa Valley, 46-29.
Regardless of the losses, the team added two wins to their record. This has been hard for them to accomplish this year, so snagging two in a row is a confidence booster.
There are only a few weeks left before the postseason, and the team is looking to add more wins to their record.
