Pursuit leads to crash in Tipp City

On the evening of March 3, 2025, at approximately 11:16 p.m., the Troy Police Department initiated a pursuit of a grey Dodge Charger after observing the vehicle traveling at high speed without a registration plate. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle for a reckless operation violation when it was clocked at 67 MPH in a 35 MPH zone.

The pursuit began near N. Market Street and E. Staunton Road and continued through the Stonyridge area. The suspect vehicle made a U-turn and intentionally struck a Troy Police cruiser, escalating the situation. Additional officers were dispatched to assist in the pursuit.

The suspect vehicle, later identified as a Dodge Charger driven by 29-year-old Carlton Holden II of Troy, continued fleeing at high speeds, reaching up to 130-140 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. The vehicle entered the jurisdiction of Tipp City, where officers deployed stop sticks, successfully deflating three of the vehicle's tires. Despite the damage, the suspect continued to drive recklessly through the city, eventually striking two other vehicles near a railroad crossing on Main Street.

The crash disabled the suspect vehicle, and both Carlton L. Holden II and his passenger, identified as Carlton Holden Sr., were found injured inside the vehicle. Deputies and Tipp City officers quickly extracted both men from the car. Both occupants were transported to the hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Holden II faces multiple charges, including Fleeing and Eluding, Driving Under Suspension (DUS), and Failure to Control. Given the severity of his actions, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office is requesting that the Fleeing charge be upgraded from a Fourth-Degree Felony to a Third-Degree Felony due to Holden II’s reckless endangerment of public safety and disregard for the well-being of others.

The investigation into the crash was turned over to the Tipp City Police Department, as the accident occurred within their jurisdiction.

Carlton Holden II is currently incarcerated in the Miami County Jail.
