Tipp swimmers compete in SW Classic
It is one of the most prestigious swim events of the high school season, and the Tippecanoe swim team competed alongside the best.
The Southwest Ohio Classic was held at various locations, with the qualifiers advancing to the finals. Tipp competed at Trotwood Madison in the qualifier.
In the opening event, the girls 50 Free, Adelyn Deppen was the highest Tipp finisher, placing 27th with a time of 30.51.
A much better performance in the 100 Free saw Tipp’s Avery Anderson finish fourth in the Trotwood qualifier, swimming a 57.90, with Alaina Jacquemin finishing eighth, swimming 59.74.
Anderson came back and nearly won the prelim in the 200 Free, placing second overall with a time of 2:08.00, just .03 behind the top qualifier. Tipp’s Emily Vore placed 12th as the sophomore swam 2:39.86, Brynn Buehler was 15th 2:43.00 and Tipp freshman Audrey Jackson 16th (2:43;36).
Deppen was seventh overall in the 500 with a 6:45.21. Anderson also had a great performance in the 1650 Free, winning the prelims in 19:38.83.
Vore placed 15th in the 100 Backstroke, swimming 1:22.32, then came back in the 200 Backstroke, finishing ninth overall in 2:53.02.
Tipp had three finishers in the 100 Butterfly, led by Anderson, who was third, swimming 1:05.05; Jacquemin was fifth (1:06.21) and landing at tenth was Buehler (1:26.07).
Jacquemin also finished fifth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:31.32.
Tipp was fourth in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:55.05, while in the 400 Free Relay finished seventh with a finish of 4:30.53. The Red Devils also placed fifth in the 200 Medley Relay.
In the boys prelims also at Trotwood, the 100 Free saw two Red Devils in the top ten. Mikey Stanford finished fifth (52.57), while freshman Liam Dunkle was eighth (54.49). Ben Kozen was also solid in the 200 Free, as Ben Kozen was fourth in the prelims swimming 2:03.04. Kozen also finished third in the 500 Free in 5:31.36.
Stanford was back at work in the 100 Backstroke, placing sixth with a 1:03.95.
The 200 Backstroke also saw some Red Devils place as Jack McMurry finished third in the prelims with a 2:34.54, and Tipp freshman Ridley Brenner was sixth with a time of 2:46.00.
Brenner came back in the 50 Butterfly and earned the prelim best time of 26.22, with his Tipp teammate Liam Dunkle placing second.
Brenner was third in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 59.45, and Dunkle placed sixth. McMurry was second in the 200 Butterfly 2:21.53.
Kozen stepped up in the 200 IM as he placed fourth with a time of 2:22.79, with Brenner one spot behind Kozen. McMurry came back in the 400 IM as the only swimmer, finishing with a time of 4:53.68.
Tipp finished fourth in the 200 Free Relay (1:38.04), second in the 400 Free Relay (3:36.15), second in the 400 Free Relay (3:36.15), third in the 200 Medley Relay (1:49.13) and third in the 400 Medley Relay (4:06.46).
