Mader receives MVL first-team honors
After a rookie season that saw Tippecanoe’s Abbi Mader lead the conference in scoring and steals while finishing third in field goal percentage, the coaches in the league selected the Red Devils freshman first-team all-league as the Miami Valley League released their list of top players in the conference.
Mader averaged 18 points per game along with 4.0 steals, while shooting 48.7 percent from the field which was the highest percentage for a guard in the league. Mader also shot 85% from the free throw line.
Mader is joined on the first-team by Butler sophomore Emma Dady and Noel Smith, Stebbins star point guard Aubrey Fritz, Brooklyn Kimbell of Fairborn, Megan Lind of Greenville, and the Sidney duo of Jordan Scully and Kelis McNeal. Scully was also awarded the conference Player of the Year.
Selected to the second-team was Tipp senior Emily Aselage, who finished second on the team with a 7.5 points per game average, she also finished with 5.4 rebounds and shot 78% from the line.
Also named to the second-team along with Aselage was Butler trio of Dillan Bardonaro, Nora Stammen and Ayla Washburn, Piqua’s Audrey Bean, Alianna Davis of Stebbins and the West Carrollton duo of Stephanie Gandy and Cydney Grigsby.
Two more members of the Tippecanoe squad were named to the honorable mention group. Junior point guard Ella Combs landed on that team, along with junior Reese Hoover.
Combs ran the show from the point guard spot and finished second in the conference in assists with an average of 3.3 per game. She averaged 4.6 points and had three steals per game this season.
Hoover was on her way to what her coach feels would have been a first-team all-league season, but she injured her ACL in game 12 and she missed the remainder of the season with surgery. She was scoring 7.3 points per game and a team high 6.6 rebounds per game. She also led the league in blocks when she was injured.
Joining those two on the honorable mention list were Miley Amann of Stebbins, Avery Baumann and Jayda Lyons of Greenville, Aubree Carroll of Piqua, Jayda Dillow and Persephone Williamson of Troy, Natalya Madison and Avery Tate of Xenia, Jaida Mills of Fairborn and Jada Shroyer of Sidney.
