MVL honors boys basketball standouts

When you win the conference, good things happen on the postseason teams. Not only did the Tippecanoe Red Devils boys basketball win the Miami Valley League title, five of their players were selected to the all-conference team, voted on by the coaches in the league.

Surprisingly, only one member of the Red Devils landed on the first-team, but CJ Bailey also received the highest honor. The junior was voted as the conference Player of the Year as he put together a league-leading 17.9 points per game average and was second in the conference with 3.3 assists per game.

Bailey was also joined on the first-team by three members of the Sidney Yellow Jackets, a team the Red Devils swept in both games this season as A’Zon Steele, Julius Spradling and Jayce Daniel all landed on the top team. Also on the first-team included Isaac Burns of Troy, Chylan Ingram and Joseph Ingram of West Carrollton and Julius Rusk of Butler.

Tipp’s Brock Moon was also selected as the Coach of the Year in the conference.

Two members of the Red Devils were named to the second-team after a very solid season. Colin Turner and Preston Zumwalt both found a spot among those players as Turner averaged 8.3 points per game and a team-best seven rebounds per game. He also dished three assists per game. Zumwalt was a huge three point threat for Tipp and finished averaging 10.3 points per game and shot 38% from behind the arc. On a side note, Tipp shot 596 threes on the season.

Also named to the second-team were TJ Green and Charlie Neely of Butler, Drew Hamilton of Greenville, Bryce Haught of Troy, Isaiah Martin of Piqua, and Will Perry of Fairborn.

Tipp also landed AJ Jergens and Larkin Thomas on the honorable mention list.

Jergens scored 3.7 points per game while Thomas averaged six points per game.

They were joined on honorable mention by Zaydyn Allen of Piqua, Mason Barlow and Adrien Carter of Stebbins, Johnny Barr from Greenville, Trimonde Henry and Devin Withers from Xenia, Brycen Jones of West Carrollton, Luke Kennehan of Fairborn, Tomarri Moore of Butler, Josh Murphy of Troy and Ethan New of Sidney.
